WOW

I'm a long way from forming an opinion about who I will vote for in the presidential elections, but I will say I just had a WOW moment.

I have been watching some video clips online of Barak Obama and his wife. I must say he certainly is easy to look at and easy to listen to.

I also had a moment of WOW, what it would mean to have a black couple in the White House. The more I think about it the more I think WOW.

******

By the way...

Can anyone explain how you know if you can or can not vote in a primary? Do you have to be registered as a Republican to vote for the Republican candidates and a Democrat to vote for the Democratic candidates?

And, if that is the case how do you know what you are registered as? It has been about 15 years since I registered and I have no idea. Does it say on my voter registration card? If so, where? I can't seem to find it.

SNOW

You would think that after snow like this: (Minnesota Dec. 2007)

We wouldn't get very excited about this: (Chattanooga Jan. 2008)

But we were all crazy excited about our snow last night. Even though some of it is already melting I love looking out of the window at it this morning.

I'm Cold

cold.JPG
Wow! I'm cold. It is noon and the temp. is still 62 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't think I dressed Katie warm enough for school this morning.

I knew it was supposed to cool off at the end of the week, but I never thought it would be this cool. The first three days of the week we reached the 90's.

I have really been longing for fall weather. I hope it is here to stay. I wouldn't mind temps in the 70's for a few weeks. I hope it warms up a bit.

Wow! Ignorance?!?

Ignorance?..Stupidity?..Hatred?..

Two arrested in noose incident near Jena, Louisiana

I don't know. I can only shake my head. I can't imagine what people are thinking when they do things like this.

The items they had in the truck with them make it sound like they were a couple of red neck teenagers looking for trouble - obviously, they had nooses hanging from the back of their truck.

I just don't understand...

Lightning Bugs?

Have I just missed them somehow or have they just started coming out? It kinda seems early, but maybe not.

Tonight is the first night I've noticed them this year.

I love to see lighting bugs and can't wait to show them to the kids tomorrow night!!

Have you turned on the A.C. yet?

I can't believe we are looking at temps in the mid 80's.

After an outrageous electric bill the last couple of months I'm really fighting turning the air conditioner on. I was hoping we would have at least a few weeks of not having to heat or cool our house.

I might not hold out much longer at this rate. I've been doing house work upstairs and it is VERY warm.

So, have you used your A.C. yet?

I hate it when I do that!

Daddy is out of town today and Mommy is home with five sick kids. I had a little extra cash laying around (pretty unusuall) and decided to order a pizza for supper (didn't feel like cooking). I even had it delivered - we never do that (can't really load the car with the kids just to run and get a pizza - not worth it).

The pizza came and I was really worried about the tip. I didn't know what to give. The order came to $12.49. I gave $15.00. I figured a $2.50 tip was enough.

The guy came to the door and I was trying to be upbeat and appreciative of his services. I cracked a couple of jokes and said thank you for the pizza. I brought the pizza in, opened it and saw it was the wrong pizza.

I ran outside and flagged the driver down (he had to turn around at the end of our dead end street). He stopped and I told him we had the wrong pizza.

This is the part I hate about myself!!!!

In an attempt not to make him feel bad about about his mistake, I couldn't think straight enough to get the right pizza. He ended up taking our pizza back to the store and leaving us with the wrong one. I'm sure he thought he was giving us a deal - we got a three topping for the price of a one topping. The problem is no one in this house (except Daddy who isn't here) likes the toppings on the three topping pizza.

Now we are stuck with our special treat - pizza - and we can't even really enjoy it. Picking off the toppings you don't like, doesn't leave a pizza you do like.

I HATE IT WHEN I DO THAT. Why couldn't I just tell him we wanted the pizza we ordered?

Legislation To Make Spanking Illegal

I'm not really looking to get into a debate about whether or not spanking is good or bad method of discipline (I have a pretty strong opinion about it), but I would be interested to know if it scares you to think that the government could legislate this kind of thing?

Apparently according to Foxnews.com in San Fransisco (no surprise there) a "lawmaker" is introducing legislation that would make it illegal to spank a child under 4 years old.

Assemblywoman Sally Lieber, D-Mountain View, said such a law is needed because spanking victimizes helpless children and breeds violence in society.

"I think it's pretty hard to argue you need to beat a child," Lieber said. "Is it OK to whip a 1-year-old or a 6-month-old or a newborn?"

Lieber said her proposal would make spanking, hitting and slapping a child under 4 years old a misdemeanor. Adults could face up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Okay, I'm resisting the urge to make a comment, but like I said. I don't really want to discuss the "moral" issue here. I'd like to discuss the political issue.

Does this scare any of you? What else could they, would they, will they try to legislate about the way I do things in my own home?

Three questions

1. Is a police car supposed to go over the speed limit if their lights are not on?
2. Is is still illegal to drive with head phones?
3. Don't you have to have some kind of postal permission to put a flyer on a mailbox? (two guys just came by and put a flyer on the side of our mailbox)

convince me to vote

I wouldn't call myself politically informed but I do try to stay up to speed on local issues.

This Ford and Corker race is really getting my goat. Corker ads that claim Ford wants to give the morning after pill to school children are ridiculous. Then he comes on and says--- I'm Bob Corker and I approve this message.

Probably would lean a little more toward Corker on most issues but just can't get over the Walmart thing and all the money. Wish there was still a par 3 golf course in Brainerd. The Brainerd levee walks just aren't the same.

I remember as a student at Covenant going to the Central park at Eastgate (which is gone) and taking it over to the tables by the ducks to eat it. Just not the same feel anymore.

Probably won't visit the polls on election day but your welcome to convince me otherwise.

We will need a new can.

We'll have to call the city tomorrow to get a new can for garbage. We will need two now. Chattanooga City Council approved the once a month recycling plan.

We will have a hard time getting to the "centers" with five kids and two jobs.

Our city council is just brilliant.

LADIES: your suggestions please

I'm ready to cut my hair, but have no idea where to go. In the past I've just had my sister chop a couple inches off with her sissors. I think I might cut it even shorter this time and probably need to have a professional do it.

Where do you get your hair cut? I don't think I've ever gone to a "shop" to get mine cut. I don't want to spend a lot of money, but I would like to go somewhere where the people know what they are doing.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

They are holding our money hostage

We bought a Christmas gift for my brother at the Army Navy Surplus store and then decided to get something different. 1st - it was the wrong color, 2nd - it was over our price range.

We made the mistake of not returning it right away and we didn't read the receipt that told us we had seven days to make a return. Well, seven days was yesterday. When Greg went to return it today they would only give him an in store credit.

It isn't so bad to get an in store credit somewhere like Wal-Mart because we know we will be spending money there again sooner or later. The problem with this is that we would NEVER spend money at the Army Navy Surpluss store unless it were for a gift for my brother.

It makes me mad that they are holding our money hostage! Now we will be forced to buy something we wouldn't normally buy just because we will lose $53 otherwise.

I know it is our fault for not paying closer attention to the store policy, but I can't help but be mad about it so I've venting here. (unfortunately the venting really isn't making me feel any better)

$53 is a lot of money for us. It would buy at least one week's worth of diapers (for the three kids we still have in diapers)

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Today is the first day of winter. I hope this winter will bring some snow to Chattanooga!

We usually get our snow "fix" in MN when we visit Greg's parents for Christmas. This year, because of the new baby, we are staying in Chattanooga. That means if we are going to see any snow this winter it will have to be here.

I plan to make some paper snow flakes with the big kids soon. Gramma and Grampa left behind some coffee filters. They are great for making snow flakes. It is much easier to fold a coffee filter for a snow flake than it is a piece of paper. The kids just have to fold it in half, then in half again, then in half again, etc...

You can create your own snow flake here.

Cheap Georgia Gas

You are probably hoping to read about the secret Georgia gas station with cheap gas. Unfortunetly, that is not the topic.

I have become more and more frustrated over the past year as a made the short drive to Georgia gas stations to get "cheap" gas.

The price has been literally the same for awhile. I wanted to go in to the gas stations and tell them that gas is supposed to be cheaper here and that they were simply ripping me off since the gas tax is cheaper.

I found my answer as to why. (many of you may know this already but it was news to me)

Georgia has a tax per gallon plus some kind of % on the price per gallon. Tennessee only has a tax per gallon. As the prise rises, the difference between TN and GA gets closer and closer. I think in some places, gas is more expensive in GA.

Make since? If not someone else may have to help, that was the best I could do.

City councilmen at it again!

Our city councilmen act more like the third graders I used to teach than the professional adults I would hope we elected to office. I just don't understand why they can't stop bickering and find a way to work together to accomplish a job.

I get so tired of reading about their shenanigans over and over again. It is embarrassing.

Actually, come to think about, it I believe my third graders knew how to work together better than the councilmen do. They probably could have taken care of city business better than the councilmen too.

Stem Cell Research

I'm bringing up this subject out of curiosity. It is one that is well over my head. I of course, like most, take a strong stance on one side of the debate. My stance is theologically based although I believe it has strong scientific support. I am not about to pretend I am well educated on the subject.

I strongly believe that life begins at conception and I am opposed to destroying an embryo for stem cell research. I must admit that this is a difficult subject and I don't have any loved ones suffering from diseases with the hope of a cure to be found in this kind of research.

The subject has come to mind again because of the announcement made today by Bill Frist involving the legislation about stem cell research that is before congress.

I don't know much about stem cell research but I do know that according to the media and the high powered spokesmen who are for embryonic stem cell research that stem cells may be the ultimate cure for an unending number of diseases. I have recently been interested in the fact that we don’t hear much about the possibilities of other stem cells.

I know that adult stem cells are more specialized and therefore, unable to develop into cells of other types, or so it seems. The more research I do the more I find out that there might be more possibilities out there than we think. There may not be a need to use the controversial embryonic stem cells.

Here We Go

We are very new to the world of blogging but excited about being part of it. We still haven't decided what our title will be or the direction this blog will take but we decided to go ahead and jump in with both feet. What better way to learn right?

We may try to take part in discussions about local issues or we may just decide to use this blog to share news about our ever growing family.

We are proud parents of four beautiful children and expecting another in November. We are very interested in local issues but have never actively participated in trying to affect change in our city.

We do have a heart for the people of our city and have been active with outreach ministries through our Church.

We have been active readers of Chattablogs for a while now and look forward to joining this blogging community.
